Requirements for Grundlagenfach “Information Systems and Distributed Systems”

Exam is without any supporting material (books, notes, etc.). Exam will be given in English. The exam involves questions from two fields: information systems and distributed systems. The material is based mostly on the two 2nd Year courses in Database Systems (IS-G) and Computer Networks. Furthermore, it is partly based on the two 3rd Year Kernfach courses in Information Systems (IS-K) and Distributed Systems (DS-K). The full requirements can be found here .

Example Exams

There are no example exams for this foundation course yet because this course is given for the first time this semester. In order to prepare for the exam, however, it might be useful to take a look at past exams in "Databases (IS-G)" and "Computer Networks (Vernetzte Systeme)". The VIS has a collection of exams. Here are the exams of these two courses from Summer 2006.

Note that the syllabus of the "Grundlagenfach" is different to the syllabus of these Bachelor-level courses. In particular, the "Grundlagenfach" covers material, e.g., XML and XQuery, which is not part of the Bachelor-level courses. Also note that the exam in the "Grundlagenfach" is in English (and only English) whereas the exams of the Bachelor-level courses are in German.
