Advanced Topics in Information Systems

Content

This seminar will discuss research topics in the area of information systems. The topic in this semester is Information Integration & Dataspaces. Note: the number of participants is limited to 14 students.

Abstract

Information Integration is among the most important fields in information management. The problem of integrating data from diverse, possibly heterogeneous data sources is ubiquitious. It arises in companies, scientific repositories, governments, monitoring, data streams, and also personal information management. Currently, the problem of information integration is attacked by a potpourri of different approaches including enterprise information integration, federated databases, data warehouses, enterprise portals and many others.

This seminar investigates the core concepts of information integration and discusses important research and industry contributions. Furthermore, we will also look at important scenarios in the area of personal information management. Finally, we will discuss the recently proposed idea of dataspace management systems which is key to architecting a unified, single system able to cover all aspects of information integration scenarios.

If you are interested in this seminar and require additional information, please, contact Donald Kossmann, Moira Norrie or Jens Dittrich by Email.
